Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
