Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for questions to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
